A Rising Tide on MTV

by , Dec 10, 2008

Dear friends, supporters, and graduates of A Rising Tide,

On September 12th-14th, Rising Tide held its 13th and largest campaign-training seminar ever. 30 young people, hailing from towns all across the state and representing all major political parties, participated in our program held at the University of Southern Maine. Here are some of the highlights;

1. Rising Tide got some great press coverage.

A freelance reporter from MTV's Rock The Vote attended and filmed 2 days of the seminar. She has produced a 3-minute video about the training that you can view at the following link:

The piece appears on a special Rock The Vote web site, and has the potential to be featured on MTV news. Check it out!

2. Rising Tide also hit a milestone with the September graduations of young people from Washington County, Piscataquis County, and Aroostook County. That means that we have now officially trained young people from EVERY county in Maine.

3. Of special significance was the fact that so many Rising Tide graduates helped facilitate this training including:

· Anya Trundy (ART '04 grad and Operations Director for the MDP) taught targeting.

· Jack Woods (ART '04 grad), Robert O'Brien (ART '05 grad and Portland School Board member), and Stephanie O'Brien (ART '05 grad and ART Board member) facilitated the Crisis simulation.

· Dan Skolnik (ART '06 grad and Portland City Councilor) had lunch with the class.

· Chris Cinquemani (ART '06 grad and Field/Communications Director for TABOR) taught field.

· Rick Redmond (ART '07 grad and Deputy Finance Director for the MDP) taught GOTV.

· Darlene Huntress(ART '05 grad and EqualityMaine Public Policy Director) taught Volunteers.

Our next campaign training will be held in January, so please be on the lookout for an email soon with dates and details.

And finally, congratulations to Rising Tide's newest graduates and special thanks to our facilitators!
